Description

I can recommend this book to anyone who likes a good police procedural of the British flavor, oops, make that flavour. The Superintendent, Queen of stating the obvious in previous novels, suddenly becomes an omnipotent genius, far above Banks or Annie's ability to understand or fathom. Most likely I've just read his worst book and his other stuff is good or at least decent, but holy moly this was too much.

This audiobook is ideal for a long night by the fire, or, if you dare, alone by a brook in the English countryside. Mark Hardcastle, set designer for a local theater group, is found hanging from a tree in the woods outside Eastvale. In fact, there is quite an air of desperation around banks as everything gets fucked up around him as he does his job.Billy's a dodgy accountant for politician and racketeer Pink Harrison, who is about to come unstuck. The answers will link Hardcastle’s latest work on Othello to the government post Silbert retired from, but in a maddeningly inconclusive way that yields a high degree of realism but a conclusion that drags on forever. I also like the cover of my copy, it is strange and unusual, and the little guy is adorable (and resembles the aliens in the book not at all. I don't particularly care whether Banks has his "latte and cranberry muffin" at Cafe Nero, or just in a cafe.

At the same time, everyone is telling everyone to be careful, but Banks blunders on and then is flabbergasted to think that his actions could cause inconvenience to anyone around him even though he himself hinted at that possibility many times beforehand.Four schoolboys, all aged about ten or eleven, sat hunched on the boulders by the water, draped in towels or damp T-shirts, strips of pale skin, white as tripe, exposed here and there, all the spirit crushed out of their joyous play. In the concealed back room of a house in Edinburgh, the real Elaine Buxton screams into the darkness…. Beautifully descriptive of NYorks landscapes, the smart and the rough areas of market towns - the two lines of story which never meet- one local one involving estate drugs gangs , the other the mysteries of M15/6 .
