Mesmerizing, dream-like and darkly suspenseful, Bad Fruit captures the damaging love and loyalty that children can bear towards abusive parents who are suffering from and passing on their complex trauma.

Lily brings her mother spoilt orange juice and cooks recipes from her mother's childhood that her father wouldn't make, but it's so quick for her mother to change from love to hate, and maybe Lily can't remember exactly what happened with her and her family when she was younger. There is such intensity to the writing, as Ella King explores this part of their lives, and it really pulled me into the story, keeping me hooked right the way through. The characterisation is excellent especially of Lily and the introduction of Lewis into the storytelling gives the reader hope of salvation for Lily. Overall, this is an incredibly well written novel that has you full of questions from the start and you do get answers. Bad Fruit lấy góc nhìn từ Lily - cô con gái vừa tròn 18 tuổi, con lai giữa mẹ là người Châu Á và bố là người Anh.I was completely absorbed in the story, although I did keep on having to put it down because it was heartbreaking in parts. Plus, grapes have quercetin and resveratrol, which may lower your chances of atherosclerosis, a condition when plaque builds up in your arteries, disrupting blood flow. And then the memories start, flashbacks that don't belong to Lily at all, but are her mother's memories; and as Lily starts to unwrap that mystery, the story of her own family is unfolded right alongside it. You'll get plenty of carotenoids, including beta carotene and lutein, which give mangoes their vibrant yellow-orange shade.

I know her mother experienced horrific abuse but I'm not a believer in that being any justification for abusing her own children but I say that as someone who grew up with loving and supporting parents. Debut author King skillfully brings to light the layered, deeply complex machinations that lurk below the surface in families and confer the fragile impression of normalcy; this family's crosshairs of obligation, love, and resentment, too, are never oversimplified.Intricate and thrilling characterization; Lily can be unreliable but I like her disturbing narration— wicked and so taut. Another popular tropical fruit, pineapples, infuse the air with their sweet aroma as soon as they're cut open.

This is the story of Lily and the abuse she's been dealt by her neurotic and cruel Singaporean mother.Bold, beautifully told, and bound to keep you turning this pages, this is an unforgettable story about a family gone bad . This is a literary novel exploring the nuanced, complex relationships between a family riddled with generational abuse.

Woman eating lemon doing funny face expression Face portrait of woman wears floral shirt, eating acid lemon doing funny face expression with eyes closed. This is a potent uncovering of a toxic mother/daughter relationship, generational trauma, and a daughter's attempts to break free - I'm sure many readers will love it but me, I just feel like I've read this story so many times before in contemporary fiction. As long-hidden truths begin to emerge and Lily slowly unlocks the mysteries surrounding Mama, she thinks she’s finally found the way to be the perfect daughter and win Mama’s approval. It does double down a little towards the last 75 pages but the audiobook made the on-ramp feel so long!
