Also, what we learn about Konrad felt very limited and superficial, and because of that I had a hard time connecting with him at all. However, the sheer number of secondary characters and details about them unfortunately made it, at times, seem like the purpose of this book was to establish characters and their stories for future books. From the cozy confines of a tiny seaside village to the glittering crush of the a fashionable London soiree comes an enthralling tale of a thoroughly mismatched couple .

Orphaned and besieged Princess Alesandra knew that only hasty marriage to an Englishman could protect her from the turmoil in her own land.Determined to find the man who ruined her sister and force him into matrimony at the point of a pistol, Lizzie Talbot hatches a plan to abduct the blackguard responsible. I actually started with the offshoot series The Brides of Karadok, and find that I prefer that series. It starts out when the heroine, Aimee, falls in love with Kentigern, and decides that she wants him as her husband.

I felt that maybe that time could've instead been used to show more of Aimee and Konrad genuinely getting to know each other. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). This book really reminds me of Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood (which also happens to be narrated by Anne Flosnik). Firmly on the shelf, Poppy Fairchild has spent the past few years eking out a living as a Gothic novelist—under a pseudonym—to support herself and her younger sisters.

Because honestly with the way he was talking and acting none of the other characters believed him and I didn’t believe him either. Duty to King Tomas Dyrease, the newly made Earl of Irvaine and the village of Wisenvale, owes his good fortune to his king and the recent civil war.I’m not saying, that Ms Coldbreath should stop writing about Karadok, but I wish there was more effort being put in. Please note these are all pure opinions, and I’m sure what I don’t like about this book is why someone does like this book. Abandoned by the fiancée he adored, the man who once walked like a prince among London's elite secludes himself in his family's mansion, cursing his way through dark days and darker nights. As another consequence of this, too much of the book focused on Aimee’s and Konrad’s relationship with other people, rather than their own relationship.

This could be said for other Alice Coldbreath books, but I hate when two main characters have a disagreement that leads to no resolution, and then they immediately start banging. On the upside this has made me want to go back and re-read Lenora/Garman's story, Fenella/Oswald's story, and Linette/Mason's story.

Gil Truman has eyes only for the beautiful Tilly-until he is forced to marry plain, sickly Rose Davenport to reclaim the lands his father foolishly gambled awa . Our story opens in the make-believe medieval Kingdom of Karadok, with similar norms to medieval Europe. No surprise the heroine's name is Aimee, since at its heart this is a tale of a disfigured and isolated hero who learns to value the gift of love and friendship that's offered to him from not just his wife, but hither-to-ignored acquaintances and family. Women who were more reserved and meek were - pathetic with no backbone ( the way he saw the heroines sister) Women who took charge and knew to command a social situation or a household were too managing (like his wife). When Alex Dryden, Duke of Davenport, receives a letter from a disgruntled tenant alleging mismanagement by the land agent who oversees one of his estates, he knows something must be done.
