Description

This is the perfect companion to Mathematics Explained for Primary Teachers, 6th edition and now comes with over 800 questions! We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. This giant workbook is packed with fun activities to help children practise their English and Maths skills. This Student Workbook reinforces and applies concepts introduced in Derek Haylock's Mathematics Explained for Primary Teachers. I like to recommend this for this group to help them with mathematics pedagogy in training and beyond.

Since working in a primary school I have referred to this book many times to develop my knowledge and understanding further and aids me to be able to offer more to the children I work with. Haylock approached mathematical concepts in very approachable language and if it's not your strong point (like me), this is a great way of bettering your understanding. Major teaching points in number have been missed and the emphasis of using Dienes material and money for exploring place value and pre-partitioned shapes for fractions is unhelpful. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. He worked for over 30 years in teacher education, both initial and in-service, and was Co-Director of Primary Initial Teacher Training and responsible for the mathematics components of the primary programmes at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich. There is still a huge reliance in the book of using bare numbers to explain concepts and a lack of use of concrete resources or visuals to demonstrate conceptual understanding and how to teach these concepts effectively to children. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This edition tackles written calculation algorithms with clarity and detail; the emphasis on children understanding these processes and how to support this is maintained throughout.

The physical structure of chapters are well presented, and there is a good balance of colour, text, symbols, and pictorial representations. The inclusion of a section on using addition to check subtraction is well explained - this is a useful addition to the fifth edition. He was a former founding member of the General Teaching Council for England and is engaged in supporting developing education projects in India. The explanation of key terms will enable primary mathematics teachers to navigate their way through the new curriculum document. Lesson Plan Activities by Ralph Manning support content-focused chapters and contain creative mathematics tasks across the primary age range. Develop their problem solving by apply mathematical skills to real-life situations and through mathematical puzzles, problems and investigations.
