The Sonos will then spend quite a few minutes a ridiculously long time indexing the Brennan B2 - don’t worry it doesn’t do it every time. Make a cup of coffee. If you have a lot of music make a meal. You can tell its doing something if you listen to the B2 you can hear the hard disk head moving. I'm pleased to say that vTuner have added support for the new BBC streaming mechanism (known as HLS). This necessitated a bit of a rewrite in the Brennan code. I have today released new code for B2B. Please let us know of any difficulties. I aim to release code for BB1 and B3 next week. NAS (Network Attached Storage) facility - lets you see the Brennan hard disk contents on a computer. It appears that the x-14 may transmit a more reliable wifi signal to be used wirelessly with another receiver connected to another analogue or digital amplifier, but I haven't tried it yet. You can do wired connection pre-amp outputs using analogue or digital on both, which is great for interconnecting with existing audio stereo/amplifier systems and multiple surround speakers with more power. Both don't recommend using wireless speakers, but it might be more possible with the x-14? Many of the JB7 and B2 design decisions followed naturally from the decision to be as small as possible.

You will then see the music folder on the brennan - you can treat it like any other folder on the PC.BBC is introducing a new internet radio system called HLS and the old streams will terminate in 2023. Radiofeeds has augmented its list of 1000+ stations to support these new HLS stations. After the software upgrade you should use Settings->Radio Update to get the new list. You can then find the new stations using Find Stations. You will need to plug the Bluetooth dongle into a USB port to use Bluetooth. The Bluetooth dongle is usually marked V5.0. You don’t need the web UI for basic playing - but you will need it for several functions like finding radio stations, setting presets, creating Playlists, ripping CDs - you can think of the web UI as a super remote control.

There is a crude tone control (taken from early B2s) added to the settings panel in the original web UI. If you return bass and treble to the middle the tone control will be switched off. I found when I photographed the B2 - it is so small it looked lost in a room setting or alongside other audio equipment. The Web UI has a number of panels that are pretty much available in all the views - although there are some differences in implementation. Now Playing Upgrade the software from a USB memory in USB A. You need to get a file called b2s.tar.gz from www.brennan.co.uk The new BBC HLS system will give you access to higher quality music. I understand they use 320k AAC.The screen is bigger on the x-14 and seemingly more user friendly than the Brennan, but probably comparable. I like the CD art icons displayed on the x-14 during play, as well as for cataloguing and searching, which is more like a jukebox style, rather than just lists. The offline database has two disadvantages. It does not have any album art and it does not know about recent CDs. Two USB 2.0 type A ports for peripherals - WiFi dongle, Bluetooth dongle, USB Hub, USB DAC, USB storage device.

B2 gets a few minor tweaks to the Queue function. B3 gets the Queue function and now has Bluetooth Out. B3 can also play through wireless Sonos speakers in different rooms - up to 32 speakers simultaneously. You must first dowlnload the listing using Settings & Tools > Maintenance > Advanced > Install Radiofeeds B3 lets you compress these WAV files into FLAC files. FLAC files are about 60% of the size but there is no loss of information so the process is reversible. FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Compression. And Lossless refers to the fact that there is no loss of information. Deletes the offline database (mydb) if installed. You only need the offline database if you don't have an internet connection. It can clutter the results so this removes it.I didn’t know if I’d like the B3 - you never know when you look at computer models. In the past I scrapped several products because I didn’t like them when I saw them in the flesh. NAS stands for Network Attached Storage - that basically means that the music on the Brennan B2 hard disk can be seen by other devices on the same network. You don’t need to connect to Wifi to play music and videos but you need Wifi for some functions like internet radio, the web UI, getting the time and transferring music from a computer.
