It’s important to note that when shopping for gadgets and technology products, it can be tempting to go for the lowest price possible. However, be wary of retailers that offer prices that seem too good to be true. Some less reputable retailers may sell counterfeit or low-quality products, which can be dangerous and not perform as well as the genuine product. All your favourite Prime shows and movies are just moments away on the JVC LT-55CF890 Fire TV Edition 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV. The popular Fire TV smart platform is built-in, so it's easy to find something new with personalised recommendations. There's plenty to keep the whole family happy with Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Apple TV, and many more. And you can catch up on shows you've missed straight from the TV guide with Freeview Play. The biggest issues with the JVC, however, are that it struggles with both motion and upscaling – two key performance elements of any self-respecting 4K TV. I didn’t expect much given the 60Hz refresh rate, but the panel’s slow response time is painfully obvious. It’s not too noticeable in brighter scenes, but detail and colours are smudged by horrible blur in darker moments. Similarly, while images look crisp in 4K when the camera is moving slowly, fast action and sports shows up the panel’s limitations, with detail becoming flattened and indistinct.

These are delivered by our courier partners. Delivery usually takes no more than 5 - 7 days. Deliveries take place 5 days a week Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). All three sizes of the JVC Fire TV Edition deliver 4K images in eye-popping HDR. What does that mean? Well, remember when Full HD was the watchword? Full HD means you’re getting 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, but with 4K you’re upgrading to 3,840 x 2,160. With almost four times the pixels, everything looks sharper than you’d ever imagined possible. It’s a shame, then, that Dolby Vision content in the Disney+ app suffered from some horrible juddering during our testing. Netflix was seemingly unaffected but watching content via Disney’s streaming service was blighted with hitches and jerks throughout. Once you notice it, it’s very distracting. Hopefully this is something which can be ironed out with a future software update. We have now started delivering right to your door! The built-in Fire TV smart platform makes it easy to find something new with personalised recommendations, a handy navigation bar, and sneeky peak - which gives you a preview of what's on.Upscaling is somewhat disappointing. While the image is sharp, colours appear washed out compared with the TV’s handling of native 4K content. As the JVC employs a VA-type LCD panel, it has a familiar set of pros and cons. Viewed head-on, it supplies a surprisingly vivid, high-contrast image. Move even slightly away from head-on, however, and the contrast and colours fade away rapidly; the viewing angles are narrow at best. As a result, wall-mounting it above eye-level is a no-no, and you’ll want to be seated directly in front wherever possible, which may be awkward in many living rooms. Even in its built-in Game mode, the TV displays a lag of 42ms. The result was even worse than the 33.8ms achieved by the Hisense A7100, which doesn’t have a game mode at all. Picture quality

Your entertainment has never felt more immersive. Dolby Atmos (from supported content) provides virtual surround sound, so you feel like the action is happening all around you. Together with DTS Virtual X and DTS HD, you get stunning audio. The JVC fared a little better than expected in our testing. In SDR mode, its default Standard picture preset puts out a maximum brightness of around 369cd/m² and achieves a very respectable contrast ratio of 5,329:1 even with all the contrast– and colour-enhancing features turned off. Fire up HDR mode, and peak brightness increases to 400cd/m² while contrast remains high at 5,358:1.

Large items (large kitchen appliances, large screen TVs over 43”) The 4K display supports Dolby Vision and HLG HDR formats, and the speakers take advantage of both DTS HD and DTS Virtual X audio. But, how does it perform? Design The TV comes in three sizes – 40in, 49in and 55in – and all three have support for the HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats. That means you should be able to enjoy streaming HDR content from any of the main providers, with the added bonus that you’ll get the best results on any streaming service with Dolby Vision support, which currently includes Disney+ and Netflix.

The presence of Dolby Vision is particularly good news for a budget model. ‘Dynamic’ HDR formats such as Dolby Vision are capable of adapting to the limitations of low-end 4K TVs, whereas ‘static’ HDR formats such as HLG and HDR10 rely more heavily on a TV’s natural talents. At this price, those talents are routinely in short supply. JVC Fire TV Edition review: Key specifications Plus, with HDR content you'll see a greater depth of colour and brilliant brightness for a more realistic viewing experience – those BBC documentaries have never looked so good. And just like a smart speaker, you can ask Alexa for weather updates, sports scores, the latest headlines, and control smart devices (such as lights or thermostat) around your home.
