Studying at the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics provides you with a strong foundation in computer science. You will also gain a new perspective on the ways computational thinking can be applied to different settings. InfBase is a drop-in help desk for Year 1 and 2 students to get additional tutoring and support with their courses. You will learn some of the standard algorithms and data structures that underlie all areas of computation and put them into practice through various Python based courseworks. You will also apply some mathematical concepts to analyse both the theoretical complexity of algorithms and their practical behaviour. Software Engineering and Professional Practice (20 credits) To give you an idea of what you will study on this programme, we publish the latest available information. However, please note this may not be for your year of entry, but for a different academic year. The School of Informatics does not accept applications for second year entry to our programmes. Year 2 We also offer a five-year Informatics programme, which includes all these disciplines. What will you learn? you should discuss with the proposer if their project might be appropriate as an MInf project, or extended/revised to be so.

Similar to Year 4, you will take further advanced courses and continue to develop your project. Potential impact on Year 5 If you have not passed INF1A and/or INF1B: you will not be allowed to progress to Year 2. If you are permitted to continue at the University, you must repeat Year 1 and make up the missing credits. You will be invited to a meeting with the School Progression Officer to discuss whether this programme is right for you, and if so which courses must be repeated.

Are you under 18?

To progress from Year 3 to Year 4 of the Bachelor's Honours degrees, you must achieve an overall mark in third year of 40 or more and pass at least 80 credits of courses at level 9 or 10 at the first attempt.
